Historical House in the Old Quarter of Lagos.
Something quite, quite different and very special! Situated in the historical Old Quarter of Lagos this enchanting property was the residence of the Governor of the Kingdom of the Algarve until 1755 when the headquarters of the Regional Government was transferred to Tavira. In that same year Lagos was devastated by an earthquake and tidal wave but the Governors House survived. The site on which the villa stands was originally the home of the Roman Governor of the Algarve 2000 years ago and you can still see the original Roman well in one of the patio areas.
Today the villa provides quiet and totally secluded accommodation in the heart of the town cobbled, narrow streets leading to picturesque street cafes, bars, restaurants and attractive shops with the Batata beach only a 2 minute stroll making a car unnecessary, although secure parking is available.
The property is totally walled and gated and set in shady sculptured gardens with lawn, mature palms and flowering shrubs. The 10 x 5m swimming pool has an adjacent built-in BBQ and plenty of garden furniture for al fresco dining and relaxing.
Elegantly furnished throughout, the house and gardens are also full of works of art lending a special touch of uniqueness and beauty. The accommodation is on three levels. On entering from the street one passes through a stunning inner courtyard to the spacious modern kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, drier, microwave, refrigerator. Very elegant adjacent dining room.
On the central level there is a very comfortable sitting room with patio doors to the garden and pool. Log burning stove; Sat. TV/DVD/VCR; CD/Cassette player. Bedroom with large double bed; twin bedded room and a full bathroom.
The upper level has a very large master bedroom with King Size bed and could accommodate 2 additional children.; a twin and a full bathroom. From this level there is also access to two terraces with superb views over the roof tops across the Bay of Lagos.
To the other side of the garden and pool a lovely wrought iron gate leads to Casa Diem set in its own private garden fully fitted kitchen/breakfast room with an external staircase to a double bedded room with en suite shower. This cottage is available for extra guests and is never rented separately from the main house.
