The former capital and, without doubt, the most attractive small town in the Algarve! There is still plenty of evidence of its historical past - the ancient town walls,
Prince Henry the Navigator's fortress from which the caravels set sail on their
great voyages of discovery, the old slave market and the Golden Church. The restoration of the town centre has been tastefully done, retaining the narrow
cobbled streets and lovely squares which bustle with open air cafes, restaurants,
smart boutiques and antique shops, pavement artists and street entertainers. There are even some discos. Daily fish market; open air market on Saturdays.
Cultural centre, art galleries, potteries. A lovely cobbled promenade stretches the length of the estuary to the new Marina
and little boats ferry visitors across the estuary to the long sandy beach of Meia
Praia which stretches to Alvor. To the west is the unspoilt headland of Ponta da
Piedade - wonderful walking with spectacular sea views and amazing rock formations. Below these cliffs are the tiny coves of Praia D'Ana, Praia Camilo, Canavial - all accessed by steps, and round the headland is the larger Porto do Mos beach. A variety of boat trips are available from the Marina or you can take one of
the little Golf is within a short drive at Palmares and Boavista - or 12 - 15 kms at Parque da Floresta,

Although the once busy little fishing village has now developed into a popular

This is a family orientated village and there is a good selection of cafs and
restaurants, a few small supermarkets and generally a quiet and relaxed atmosphere.
Just 10 minutes walk from the village is the Sports Centre with tennis courts, squash
courts, swimming pool and many organised children's activities. Horse riding can
be found nearby and the challenging beautiful Parque de Floresta Golf and Leisure

![]() The charming market town of Aljezur lies in the heart of the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve stretching from Sagres in the south up the spectacular west coast into the Alentejo region. Unspoiled by tourism the area offers magnificent sandy beaches such as Armado and Bordeira at Carrapetiera (particularly popular with surfers); Praia de Amoreira; Monte Clerigo and Arrifana around Aljezur, and Odeceixe a little further north.
